Joining President LaForge is Rhonda Loper, who has served as chair of the special projects committee within Staff Council since 2014.
Each year the Delta State family bands together to help families throughout our campus and community through the “Feed-A-Family” and Toy Drive programs. These programs are sponsored by our Administrative Staff Council.
The primary role of Delta State’s Staff Council organization is to serve as a liaison for staff to discuss issues involving university policies and procedures, but they also serve many other functions on campus. They provide support for members of our Delta State family who experience the death of a loved one, help to celebrate the joys of new accomplishments, and serve as hospitality representatives for the entire university.
Each year, throughout the month of November, members of our staff and faculty donate canned goods and miscellaneous foods that go toward creating a traditional Thanksgiving meal for families in need. This program is the kickoff for a season of giving for Delta State and it continues into December with our annual Delta State Holiday Toy Drive, which collects toys for needy children who are identified by the Bolivar County Family and Children’s Services Offices.
In other news on campus, the Wiley Planetarium will host a screening of “Ice Worlds,” which focuses on the delicate balance between ice, water, and the existence of life. The show is set for Thursday, November 30 at 6 p.m. In athletic news, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will host Christian Brothers on Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m., and then both teams will host Union University on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
