Joining President LaForge are Dick Hall, who serves as Commissioner for the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s Central District, and Bill Crump, the Delta region field representative for Senator Thad Cochran.
On July 19, the university joined state and local officials at the groundbreaking ceremony for an exciting new addition to campus — the long-awaited Statesmen Boulevard. The project will create a new traffic entrance to Delta State’s athletic facilities, which are on the north side of Highway 8.
Funding for this project was made possible in part by a grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the Mississippi Department of Transportation, and we thank Senator Thad Cochran and MDOT for their roles in securing funding for the project. There was also a local match from Delta State and the City of Cleveland, and so our local community has an investment in this project as well, and we are very appreciative of their support.
In addition to the new boulevard, the project will involve improvement of the streets around and in front of the football stadium, new sidewalks, and new streetlights.
In other news on campus, beginning today, campus offices will return to the regular operating hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Also, we are nearing the beginning of the fall semester with Move-In Day set for August 20. It is guaranteed to be an exciting semester, and I look forward to welcoming students back to campus.
