Passport for Success set for April 12

Joining President LaForge is Davlon Miller, director of Delta State University Career Services.

Each year, Delta State’s Career Services office hosts a wide variety of programs that prepare students to enter the workforce and to help them connect with potential employers. For example, the Career Services office hosts 11 different career fairs on campus that are open to undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, they host résumé workshops, post jobs through our Statesmen Connect website, as well as host workshops on business etiquette and interviewing for a job.

This year, the office has created a new program called “Passport to Success.” The event is open to all juniors, seniors and graduate students and will be held on April 12 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the H.L. Nowell Student Union second floor east lobby. At the event, students will have an opportunity to create professional LinkedIn profiles, get top-quality headshots for their LinkedIn profiles and résumés, receive résumé assistance, and learn about the best ways to search for jobs or internships. The goal of the program is to help Delta State students enter their careers confidently.

In other news on campus, the Delta State University Colloquia Distinguished Speakers Lecture Series will continue on Wednesday, April 12, with guest speaker Dr. LouAnn Woodward, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Woodward will speak on the topic of “Health Care in Mississippi: What You Need to Know,” and we encourage everyone at Delta State and in the community to attend. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium of E.R. Jobe Hall.

Also, the IDEA lunch series will continue on Thursday, April 13, at 12:15 p.m. IDEA stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Advocacy, and this session will provide an opportunity for Delta State students, faculty and staff to hear from Christian, Muslim and Jewish faith leaders in a discussion about faith and college students. The event will take place in the H.L. Nowell Student Union second floor east lobby and is free and open to the public.

Just a reminder that the campus will be closed on Friday, April 14, for the Good Friday holiday.
