Joining President LaForge to discuss this year’s Winning the Race conference is Dr. Temika Simmons, assistant professor of psychology and chair of the conference planning committee.
Next week on campus, the university will welcome scholars and community members from across the Delta, who will gather for the fourth annual Winning the Race conference. This year’s conference is focused on advancing education in the Mississippi Delta and is presented in partnership with the Casey Family Programs. The conference will seek to identify educational inequities and strengthen educational opportunities across the Delta region.
When this conference was started in 2014, the goal was to create an innovative academic conference with a focus on engaging, promoting and rekindling conversations among Delta-area communities in order to move toward greater equity and reduced racial tensions.
