Campus Update, March 3, 2016

Delta State University is a proud educational partner with GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi, and we are excited about the Grand Opening activities this weekend.

We are expecting hundreds of guests for this historic event, and we hope many of these visitors will spend time touring our beautiful campus — just next door.  I ask for everyone’s assistance in “rolling out the green carpet” for our guests — not only this weekend, but also in the weeks and months ahead.

Although the Spring Break holiday begins end-of-day on Friday, we will keep the residence halls open until 12:00 noon on Sunday in an effort to encourage and allow our residential students to participate in the various events.

For this Grand Opening weekend, we want visitors to have an opportunity to explore our campus, and so several of our areas have made special arrangements to offer weekend hours.

Another special activity that Delta State is sponsoring this weekend is the opportunity for visitors to purchase an envelope with a special postmark/cancellation mark to commemorate the Grand Opening of GRAMMY Museum Mississippi.  At Delta State’s request, and in collaboration with GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, United States Postal Service staff will be on site at the Grand Opening on Saturday to issue the special postmark.

Thanks to the efforts and support of many people, the Delta State campus looks better than I believe it has ever looked.  The new entrance sign on Highway 8 (thanks to the financial support of the DSU Foundation), the green and white banners along the highway and around campus, as well as the perfectly-timed tulips, plush green grounds, and other landscaping make Delta State look and feel like the bustling and thriving university campus that it is.  The world will be looking in on us this weekend, and Delta State will proudly show everyone why we are a university of national distinction.

I invite and encourage you to participate in this historic Grand Opening weekend.  In addition, I ask for your assistance in helping our visitors feel welcome, and to invite them to come back often.
