Joining President LaForge is Tricia Walker, Director of the Delta Music Institute.
This Saturday, the Delta Music Institute will host the award-winning Thacker Mountain Radio Show Delta Edition in DMI Studio A in the Whitfield Building on campus.
This is the ninth consecutive year for the DMI to host the event, which serves as a fundraiser to support the Duff Dorrough Memorial Scholarship fund. This year’s guests will be Susan Puckett, an accomplished food writer and native of Jackson, and Buddy Greene, award-winning singer/songwriter from Nashville. Susan was the food editor for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for nearly 20 years before leaving that position to write independently. Buddy has performed with some notable names in the music industry and is the author of the Christmas classic “Mary, Did You Know?,” a song that has been recorded by everyone from Natalie Cole to Kenny Rogers.
The event, which will begin at 3 p.m., is open to the public at no charge, but donations to the DMI Duff Dorrough Memorial Scholarship fund are encouraged. Guests will also have the opportunity to sign up for an annual membership with the Friends of DMI.
In other news on campus, tomorrow at 12:15 p.m., a panel of Fulbright Fellows will discuss their experience as participants in the Fulbright program. That event will take place in the Baioni Conference Center in Broom Hall. And, on Thursday, the two-day Women’s Conference 2017 will begin. This event is being presented by the Office of Student Affairs as a way to increase student engagement and foster a culture of students who support one another.
