Joining President LaForge to discuss Delta State’s most recent exchange with Perm State is Delta State Provost, Dr. Charles McAdams.
Earlier this month, a delegation from Delta State University traveled to Perm State University in the Ural Mountains of Russia to attend events celebrating Perm State’s historic centennial. In addition to the celebrations, Perm State held two academic symposia that included four officials from Delta State. Delta State’s Provost, Dr. Charles McAdams, presented a session on academic leadership. Dr. Beverly Moon, dean of Graduate & Continuing Studies & Research at Delta State, Dr. Christy Riddle, executive director of International Student Services and the Student Success Center, and Michelle Johansen, coordinator of the Quality Enhancement Plan, presented on the topic of Delta State’s “Quality Enhancement Plan: Intercultural Competence.”
President LaForge first became affiliated with Perm State as a visiting professor in 2008, and then returned to the university as a Fulbright Fellow in 2011 and again in 2015. Delta State and Perm State have conducted numerous student and faculty exchanges in recent years. And, thanks to a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of State, a group of Delta Music Institute students and faculty completed a two-week exchange at Perm State last year.
In other news on campus, the annual Administrative Staff Council Feed-A-Family Food Drive is underway, and faculty and staff members are encouraged to contribute non-perishable items to help provide Thanksgiving meals to staff and community members in need. The Drive will end November 16, and pick up of the donated items will take place on November 14 through 16. Last year, this program provided more than 100 meals to families in the Cleveland and Bolivar County area, and this year we hope to surpass that number. For more information, contact Rhonda Loper at 662-846-4041. And, today marks the beginning of early registration for the spring semester, and we encourage all of our students to visit with their advisor and register for spring classes.
And, remember to come out for our Colloquia Distinguished Lecture Series program this Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Jobe Auditorium for Congressman Bennie Thompson’s look-back at the national election results.
