“Giving Tuesday” has gained momentum in recent years as a global day dedicated to giving back. On Dec. 1, charities, families, businesses, community centers and students around the world will come together for the common purpose of giving and celebrating generosity. This year, Delta State will launch the Centennial Fund as part of “Giving Tuesday.”

Delta State’s Centennial Fund was created by providing the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education and the School of Nursing with an initial gift of $5,000. Every dollar contributed to this important campaign will be matched with a dollar from the Gertrude Ford Foundation gift — up to $5,000 for each College/School. There is also an option of giving to the General Academic Fund, where every penny received will go to support important academic initiatives. You can give online at www.deltastategiving.org/academics/centennialfunds, and each Dean will receive a notice of every gift received.

One unique aspect of this Centennial Fund campaign is that the Academic Deans will have discretion over how the funding is used, enabling them to direct funding to the specific areas in which they have needs.

This effort is one that is personally important to President LaForge, and Delta State appreciates the Foundation staff and assistance of Provost Charles McAdams in creating this important tool to support Academic giving.

Everyone is encouraged to take a minute to visit deltastategiving.org and click on the Centennial Fund link. You will be able to designate which College or School you wish to support or to donate to the General Academic Fund.

Classes resumed today following the Thanksgiving break, and students will begin preparing for semester exams and the start of the holiday season. All students and faculty/staff are invited to take a study break this Friday between 6 and 10 p.m. at the First Year Seminar Finals Bash in the H.L. Nowell Union State Room. Free pizza and refreshments will be served.

Be sure to keep up with all of the events and activities taking place at Delta State by visiting the website www.deltastate.edu.
