Joining President LaForge is Rhonda Loper, who chaired the committee over the Delta State “Feed A Family” program this year.

Each year the Delta State family comes together to help numerous families throughout campus and the community through the “Feed-A-Family” program sponsored by the university’s Administrative Staff Council. Delta State’s Staff Council serves as a liaison for staff to discuss issues involving university policies and procedures, but they also do so much more. The group provides support for members of the Delta State family who experience the death of a loved one, the joys of new accomplishments, and they also serve as hospitality representatives for the entire university.

In 2014, faculty and staff members pulled together to donate a record number of non-perishable items to help members of our community experience a happy Thanksgiving holiday, and this year they are continuing this tradition of going “above and beyond” in the true Delta State way.

Each year throughout the month of November, members of Delta State staff and faculty gather donated canned and miscellaneous foods to create a traditional Thanksgiving meal for families in need. Last year, one hundred families within the Delta State community and in the larger Cleveland/Bolivar County community received Thanksgiving meals as a result of this program.

This is the kickoff for a season of giving for Delta State that continues in December with the annual Delta State Holiday Toy Drive which collects toys for children identified by the Bolivar County Family and Children’s Services Offices.

A reminder that Delta State’s offices will be closed Thursday and Friday to allow faculty and staff members to celebrate Thanksgiving with their families and friends. Classes will resume next Monday as students prepare for semester exams and the start of the Christmas season. As you take time to enjoy this holiday, please remember to share with those who are not as fortunate and to extend a hand to anyone in need. To everyone within the Delta State family and our extended international community, we wish you a very happy Thanksgiving.
