President LaForge is joined by Tricia Walker, executive director of the Delta Music Institute, to talk about the future of Delta State Radio – WDSW-LP 88.1 FM

The discussion is set in the newly-opened station for WDSW-LP 88.1 FM – Delta State Radio – which was officially launched on Delta State’s campus Nov. 6. WDSW-LP 88.1 FM was created with the mission of offering engaging programming that celebrates the diversity of the University and the Mississippi Delta, and promotes Delta State’s focus on music and culture.

The letters “LP” in the call letters, mean the station is operating a low-power 250-watt station, designed to broadcast clearly on campus and around the Cleveland area, even though I have heard it as far away as Ruleville and Rosedale. The station is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run media outlet offering broadcast learning opportunities for our campus community.

The “soft launch” of this station is just the beginning. The university plans to offer this incredible and new opportunity for the university to expand to include more local programming and shows created by Delta State students, faculty and staff, and the community.

The station itself is the byproduct of the commitment of a number of people on campus and the generosity of people who love Delta State and wanted to see this radio station become a reality.

In other news on campus, make plans to join us Nov. 19 for A Very Electric Christmas show at the Bologna Performing Arts Center. It will be an entertaining start to the holiday season. And, don’t forget that we will close our offices next Thursday and Friday to allow our faculty and staff to enjoy the Thanksgiving holidays with their families and friends. We wish you all a very safe and happy holiday season, and be sure to keep up with all of the events and activities taking place at Delta State by visiting our website www.deltastate.edu.
