Fireside Chat

In this edition of Fireside Chat, President LaForge talks to Jeffrey Farris, executive director of the Alumni Association, who shares all of the exciting plans in place for this weekend’s annual Pig Pickin’ event.

This week is an exciting week at Delta State as we have two very special activities planned. First, we will celebrate the 90th birthday of the university tomorrow with a series of special events. Second, we are looking forward to our annual Pig Pickin’ event, which will take place this Friday and Saturday. Pig Pickin’ was started 30 years ago by the Alumni Association and has become one of the biggest events hosted on campus each year. The annual cooking competition includes a schedule of entertainment and, of course, tailgating and football.

This year’s events include a 3 p.m. Pep Rally on Saturday leading up to the Delta State football game against Kentucky Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Saturday is also DSU Day, a day hosted by our Admissions office offering prospective students an opportunity to tour campus and meet our students, faculty and staff.

A reminder that tomorrow’s 90th birthday celebration is open to anyone. Details can be found at www.deltastate.edu/90years.

Also, our Second International Conference on the Blues is scheduled for Oct. 5-6 and will feature well-known blues scholars and musicians. The conference is hosted by the Delta Center for Culture and Learning and offers an opportunity to learn about Delta blues music in the place it was created. For more information, visit the conference web site at www.deltastate.edu/blues. Registration is still open for the event.

Please be sure to keep in touch with the numerous events and activities taking place on campus by visiting our website www.deltastate.edu.
