Fireside Chat

This edition of Fireside Chat focuses on the services available to students and all of the services offered by the Student Affairs office.

Students moved back into campus over the weekend, and the campus is thriving with activity as we begin Delta State’s 91st year. Classes began today, and we are underway during what promises to be another monumental year for the Green and White.

Today’s guest is interim Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. E.E. “Butch” Caston. Delta State is eternally thankful to Dr. Caston, who served as a Delta State administrator for years, and has also stepped in on an interim basis multiple times.

Dr. Caston is well known to the Delta State family, and his devotion and commitment to the university are legendary. He served as Delta State’s dean of the College of Education from 1989 until his retirement in 2002.

He returned to the university in 2013 at the request of President LaForge to serve as interim vice president for Academic Affairs and provost, and he had a tremendous impact on the academy during that stint.

He previously served as the interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Mississippi University for Women in 2011-12.

Dr. Caston discusses his advice for new students, the role of Student Affairs in a student’s academic life, and his goals for his time as interim Vice President.
