On this edition of fireside chat, Athletic Director Ronnie Mayers joins President William LaForge to discuss a fitting tribute to a person that most people simply know as “Boo.”
He is Dave “Boo” Ferriss, Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer and legendary coach of the Delta State University Statesmen. Coach Ferriss retired following the completion of the 1988 season, but he continues to be a tireless supporter at all levels of baseball throughout the state and especially his beloved Statesmen.
“His commitment to Delta State and the baseball world are why the University and the Department of Athletics are erecting a statue in his honor inside the stadium that bears his name,” said LaForge.
The statue, created by renowned Mississippi artist Kim Sessums, will feature Coach Ferriss in his Delta State uniform, and it will be placed, next fall, behind the newly renovated grandstand.
Mayers discusses what this statue mean to the Athletics program, and how can people get involved and help support the effort. For those who wish to support the project, visit the DSU Foundation’s website.
“As we enter the summer months, intersession has begun on campus and summer terms will kick off soon. Remember to check the university calendar at deltastate.edu for campus events and follow our athletics programs at gostatesmen.com.”
