Accreditation News and Holiday Greetings

Dear Campus Colleagues, Students, Alumni, and Friends,

We have some terrific news to close out the fall semester and begin our holiday season:  SACSCOC has reaffirmed Delta State’s accreditation!

Please see the media release for more information and details.

I congratulate and thank all of you who contributed to the vast efforts in researching and preparing the university information that went into our document submissions, especially our SACSCOC liaison, Dr. Beverly Moon, and the Institutional Research staff. This is a great moment for Delta State!

I also take this opportunity to wish each of you a very happy holiday season and a prosperous 2015!

I look forward to our work together in the new year as we continue putting the stamp of excellence on all things Delta State!

Very best regards,
Bill LaForge President

Fireside Chat

Delta State University President William N. LaForge addresses the fireside chat audience with the topic of the basketball program.

The basketball season has kicked off for the 2014-15 year, and both the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen teams have been working hard and are prepared for success. Delta State’s new women’s basketball head coach, Craig Roden, joins LaForge.

Roden has coached in the Gulf South Conference for 18 years with the last four being at the University of West Alabama. He has racked up 300 Gulf South Conference victories, which is the second highest total of any coach in the league history – trailing legendary former Lady Statesman head coach Lloyd Clark’s 495.

Coach Roden tells the audience what attributes the Lady Statesmen have that make them stand out among our competition. He also speaks about what is means to be part of such a legendary program.

One legend of the program is being celebrated in January. Lloyd Clark will be honored with the dedication of the basketball court in Walter-Sillers Coliseum on January 10.

Coach Clark guided the Lady Statesmen to the NCAA tournament 16 times out of the 19 years he coached. He led Delta State to becoming to first school in NCAA history to win a national title on its home floor.

Clark has been inducted into the Mississippi and Delta State Sports Hall of Fame, named Gulf South Conference Coach of the Year 5 times, and NCAA Region Coach of the Year 3 times.

A reception will be held at 11:00 in Alumni-Foundation House with the dedication at 1:30 p.m. at the Coliseum, prior to tip off with Lee University.

LaForge wishes students good luck on finals and announces the celebration of Fall Commencement, which will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Walter-Sillers Coliseum.
